Projects
The Bangkok Insurance Foundation is committed to improving the quality of life for people in the community, as well as society and the environment, by implementing various projects in collaboration with government and private agencies. These projects aim to bring about sustainable change with a strong foundation, leading to ongoing social development.
Bangkok Insurance Foundation Higher Education Scholarship Program
Initiated by Luang Pu Baen Thanagaro, former abbot of Wai Doi Tham Chedi, together with Mr. Chai Sophonpanich, Chairman of the Bangkok Insurance Foundation, the foundation has been providing higher education scholarships to financially disadvantaged students continuously since 1994. These scholarships are fully funded, covering tuition fees, accommodation, meals, and other essential expenses required for undergraduate studies.
Education Projects
With an awareness of the importance of quality education, the Foundation seeks to enhance educational standards and create learning opportunities for children and youth. This supports the foundation of knowledge for life and encourages them to grow into responsible and capable individuals.
Projects to Promote Morality and Volunteer Spirit
-Dhamma Camp: Held annually at Wat Doi Tham Chedi in Sakon Nakhon Province and Wat Suan Pa Rim Than in Mukdahan Province, this camp instills morality and ethics in recipients of Bangkok Insurance scholarships.
-Volunteer Development Camp: Organized annually in May, this camp encourages scholarship students to engage in community service and give back to their hometowns.
Contributions to Foundations Under Royal Patronage
Mr. Chai Sophonpanich, Chairman of the Bangkok Insurance Foundation, annually presents donations to Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn in support of foundations under royal patronage, including the Ananda Mahidol Foundation, the Chaipattana Foundation, and the Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn Foundation. This tradition has been carried on continuously since 1982.
Mobile Medical Unit Project
In collaboration with Bumrungrad Hospital, the Foundation organizes mobile medical units to serve people in remote areas, improving their health and quality of life. Volunteers from various fields, including doctors, dentists, pharmacists, nurses, public health officers, and other personnel, travel to remote villages in Sakhon Nakhon and Mukdahan Provinces. Following the guidance of Phra Ajarn Baen Thanakaro, former abbot of Wat Doi Tham Chedi in Sakhon Nakhon, the project provides medical treatment, distributes medicines, and donates essential household items to the villagers.
Public Health Projects
These projects aim to improve people’s health and quality of life sustainably by providing quality medical services, which are fundamental to community and social development.
Clean Drinking Water for Children Project
This project provides schools in remote areas with water filtration systems and annual maintenance to prevent limescale buildup, ensuring that students have access to clean and hygienic drinking water while reducing the risk of gastrointestinal diseases. The project has been in operation since 2016 and continues to the present.
Clean Restrooms for Children Project
The Foundation constructs restrooms for remote schools to raise the standard of school sanitation, instill proper restroom usage habits among students, and promote cleanliness, adequacy, and safety for good hygiene. The initiative began in 2017 and continues to the present.
Funding Support for Dan Muang Kham Pittayakom School
The Foundation provided funding of 2,044,218 baht to Dan Muang Kham Pittayakom School in Khok Si Suphan District, Sakhon Nakhon Province, for the construction of a school building designated for vocational and music–arts classrooms.
Scholarship Donation Project for Orphans
In collaboration with Bangkok Insurance, scholarships are donated to orphans from kindergarten to vocational diploma level through the Department of Children and Youth, Ministry of Social Development and Human Security, and the Equitable Education Fund (EEF). This initiative is conducted regularly to promote educational opportunities for children and youth, helping them achieve a better quality of life.
Support for Bangkok Insurance Building at Umphang Hospital
In cooperation with Bangkok Insurance, the Chai–Nuchanat Sophonpanich Foundation, and Bangkok Life Assurance, a total of 28,320,000 baht was donated to build the Bangkok Insurance Building at Umphang Hospital. The building offers medical services in otorhinolaryngology (ENT), orthopedics, general surgery, respiratory infections, viral diseases, and dentistry. This enables residents of Umphang District and the surrounding areas to access standard, efficient, and comprehensive medical care.
Flood Relief Project
Since 2017, the Foundation has prioritized providing relief to flood-affected victims in various areas:
- Donated 4,000 survival kits to flood victims in Nakhon Si Thammarat, Phatthalung, and Songkhla Provinces.
- Donated 1,000 rice cookers to residents of Kamnoet Noppakhun Subdistrict and Phong Prasat Subdistrict, Bang Saphan District, Prachuap Khiri Khan Province.
- Donated 2,200 survival kits and bottled water to residents in Sakhon Nakhon and Nakhon Phanom Provinces.
- Supported 9 flood-affected schools in Sakhon Nakhon Province by donating books, learning materials, and bookshelves.
- Donated 500 survival kits and 6,000 bottles of drinking water to flood victims in Sena District, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Province.
- Donated more than 1,700 survival kits and 13,800 bottles of drinking water to flood victims in central Thailand, including Ban Phromthin (Khok Samrong District) and Ban Kluay (Ban Mi District) in Lopburi Province, Ban Don Thong (Bang Pla Ma District) in Suphan Buri Province, the Wat Chedi Thong Village Community (Sam Khok District) in Pathum Thani Province, and Phra Ngam Subdistrict (Phrom Buri District) in Sing Buri Province.
Disaster Relief Project
Organizes activities to provide knowledge on safety and disaster prevention, while also delivering assistance to people affected by various disasters, both in nearby communities and in remote provinces across the country.
BKI Volunteer School Development Project
Bangkok Insurance employees volunteer to participate in school improvement activities, such as painting sports fields and playground equipment, decorating classrooms with murals, and creating vegetable gardens to provide fresh ingredients for student meals. The Foundation also donates learning materials and essential items, such as water filtration systems with dispensers.
This project is held annually to enhance education and living conditions for students, promoting good hygiene and encouraging schools to achieve long-term self-sufficiency.
Community and Social Development Projects
With the aim of promoting and improving the quality of life for people in communities for sustainable change, these projects also encourage participation and empower communities to develop themselves and their surroundings in the long term.
Support for Earthquake Victims in Türkiye and Syria
Donated 500,000 baht to aid the victims of the earthquakes in the Republic of Turkey and the Syrian Arab Republic, channeling the funds through the Turkish Red Crescent and the Syrian Arab Red Crescent. Both organizations are members of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement (RCRC), which plays a vital humanitarian role in disaster relief worldwide.
Support for the Sirindhorn National Medical Rehabilitation Institute
In cooperation with Debaratana Vejjanukula Hospital (Chalermphrakiat 60th Anniversary), the Foundation donated 1,000,000 baht as a royal merit offering in honor of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej the Great. The donation also included assistive devices for individuals with disabilities, such as wheelchairs, walking aids, hand cycles, ankle braces, and back supports.
Charitable Projects
The Foundation collaborates with numerous charitable organizations in Thailand to share benefits with people and society, without seeking profit or return.
Old Calendar Donation Project for the Blind
Donates used desk calendars to the Educational Technology Center for the Blind, where they are recycled into Braille learning materials for visually impaired students.
Support for the Rajapruek Institute Foundation
The Foundation has continuously provided financial support to the Rajapruek Institute Foundation since 1986, funding activities focused on forest resource conservation and restoration, while encouraging the Thai people to develop a stronger appreciation of nature.
Environmental Projects
With an awareness of social responsibility, particularly regarding environmental issues, the Foundation is committed to preserving and creating a better environment for all. It collaborates with government agencies, the private sector, and other organizations to restore and develop the environment, as well as to support activities aimed at solving environmental issues.
Pun Tawee Piti Project
Since 2021, in cooperation with the Sathorn District Office, the Foundation has provided funding and organized activities for remote schools, such as Ban Khao Tub Chang School in Wang Krachae Subdistrict, Sai Yok District, Kanchanaburi Province.
Annual Kathin Robe Offering Ceremony
The Bangkok Insurance Foundation invites Buddhists to participate in the Kathin Robe Offering Ceremony each year by donating consumer goods and essentials. This initiative reflects the Foundation’s long-standing commitment to improving the quality of life in every aspect, particularly in religion and public health.
Religious Projects
Recognizing religion as one of the essential foundations of society and an integral part of culture and daily life, the Foundation supports activities that preserve and promote Buddhism in various forms to ensure its continuity.
Support for the Thai Creative Association
Since 1984, the Foundation has supported the Thai Creative Association (Tawiset) by providing funding for environmental conservation activities, such as waste separation campaigns, sea turtle conservation, and maintenance of water resources.
Ordination Project
The Foundation supports executives and employees in studying Buddhist teachings and practices, both theoretically and practically, at Wat Phra Ram 9 Kanchanaphisek in Bangkok and at Wat Doi Tham Chedi in Sakon Nakhon. The project promotes morality and ethics, encourages employees to live and work harmoniously according to Buddhist principles, and expresses gratitude to parents, relatives, and respected elders. It also continues the cultural tradition of supporting Buddhism.
Handicraft Occupation Promotion Project
Since 1995, the Foundation has provided training for villagers in handicrafts such as weaving plastic baskets, reed mats, and naturally dyed handwoven fabric. It recruits experts to teach and improve production methods, sources raw materials, and helps find markets for products. The project enables local people to develop additional occupations and earn extra income.
Currently, the initiative has expanded to support groups such as Ban Khamsoi (Nikhom Kham Soi District) and Ban Nong Ian Dong (Khamcha-i District) in Mukdahan Province.
Livelihood Promotion Projects
The Foundation promotes supplementary occupations and income generation for community members, contributing to sustainable improvements in their quality of life. These initiatives are supported in cooperation with relevant organizations.
Ban Phrom Thin Tai Community Museum, Lopburi Province
The Foundation supports the restoration of the Ban Phrom Thin Tai archeological site and has provided funding to the Faculty of Archaeology at Silpakorn University for the excavation of skeletons and artifacts since 2007. The project aims to develop the site into a heritage learning center for future generations. Today, the Foundation continues to support the establishment of the Ban Phrom Thin Tai Community Museum, which displays artifacts and information about the site.
Arts and Culture Projects
The Foundation is committed to raising awareness and pride in the nation’s cultural heritage while promoting public participation in sustainable cultural conservation.
Breakfast for Children Project
In cooperation with the Sakhon Nakhon Primary Educational Service Area Office 1, the Foundation has been providing breakfast scholarships for preschool and primary school students since 2020. The program ensures that children receive nutritious breakfasts to support physical development, maintain a standard weight and height, and improve focus and cognitive ability, which is reflected in significantly better academic performance. The project also fosters engagement among schools, communities, and parents.
Later, the project was renamed the Breakfast Resource Support for Children Project, in line with government policy, to encourage schools to achieve sustainability by sourcing nutritious ingredients themselves or contributing funds to the program.
Donation of Ventilators and Medical Equipment to Hospitals
Together with Bangkok Insurance, the Foundation has donated ventilators and medical equipment to hospitals, along with essential relief items for those affected by the COVID-19 pandemic since 2020. The total contribution exceeded 40 million baht.
